HAND FAQ’S

WHAT IS HAND?

Established in 1999, H.A.N.D. is a nonprofit charitable 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing comprehensive medical evaluation and veterinarian care to animals in need of medical assistance.

OUR EXPANDED EFFORTS

H.A.N.D. recently began to contribute resources to the rescue and medical care of wildlife. HAND volunteers were quick to respond recently when a bald eagle that was struck by a landing aircraft was captured and transported to an advanced medical facility specializing in this species.

In 2001, HAND began transporting animals from overwhelmed shelters to other facilities in areas where adoptable animals are in demand. HAND provides animal relocation operation and successfully transported over 1000 homeless animals per year to adoption facilities in Jacksonville FL, Atlanta, and as far as upstate New York. HAND’s transport team networks with multiple animal welfare agencies in other states to make this possible and then moves the pets to safe, pre-approved rescues where they have a more certain opportunity for adoption.

WHY HAND?

In addition to services for hundreds of young, healthy animals, and transport program, H.A.N.D. is particularly proud of its "MFA Fund", Medical Finance Assistance which enables shelters, and rescues to receive assistance with the cost of health care which has launched a significant growth in foster homes in the southeast. There is a definite need for H.A.N.D. because treatment of sick and injured animals has been the most stressful part of shelters. Most shelters have limited funds due to housing and feeding and the fact most individuals pay out of their own pocket. With the help of H.A.N.D. the shelters and rescues of this community will be able to continue their work without the stress of health care cost.

HOW DOES HAND WORK?

Shelters and rescue organizations contact H.A.N.D. when there is a need for assistance from the foundation for a animals healthcare. If you know of an animals in need of medical treatment you can also apply for assistance.
After review, you are notified of participation in the program. Because funds are low at times, it may take awhile to raise the money needed for treatment. After receipt of the application, we will fax or mail a letter of introduction to their veterinarian, informing them of the program, introducing ourselves, and asking that the vet work with us on payment arrangements for the animal's medical needs.

The animals that are participating in the program will be listed online, with their medical needs and bio, the estimated cost of treatment, and how much money has been raised for their needs so far. All donations to H.A.N.D. are tax deductible, and receipts will be sent to those donating funds for this worthwhile cause. The animals bio is listed along with a photo of the animal in need, and we will make every effort to raise the money needed for treatment
.
