Just sit right back and you're hear a tale, a tale of a brave Chow Chow, stranded on a small island surrendered by Chattanooga Creek with no food or shelter. "Gilligan," "Gilligan" is his name.
And there he sat on this island with no food. Gilligan was spotted by a railroad worker who would stop the train to throw bags of dog food to him. He survived days...weeks like this....with no way to get off the island.
The railroad work and his wife contacted Animal Services and the Fire Department - but neither was willing to find a way to help this brave dog.
Finally, they called a local rescue person and that was the beginning of the end of Gilligan's island experience. The rescue person and her husband canoed over to the island, put Gilligan in a crate and canoed back across the creek.
Off to the vet "Gilligan" went where he spent the next few days regaining his strength. "Gillian" was vaccinated, dewormed, and heartworm tested (he is positive) and given all the food he wanted. It was determined that before any other medical treatment (heartworm treatment and neutering) "Gilligan" must gain at least 20 pounds.
The railroad man and wife is providing a safe haven for "Gilligan" until he is strong enough to begin the next round of medical care. He will be feed a high protein diet and given plenty of love while he recovers from his island experience. Once it is determined that he is strong enough to start treatment he will begin his heartworm treatment and be neutered. "Gilligan" has a long road ahead of him but THANKS to the HAND FOUNDATION he will have a chance at having a wonderful life.
