Cousins, Marian and Laura Jones began developing the idea of working together during childhood. With their innate passion for jewelry, they each set out on separate paths to become classically trained in metals and jewelry. In October of 2008, the two joined together to form McGowan and McClain in Chattanooga, TN.
Their main inspiration comes from nature and organic materials. They appreciate textured metal and the tactile quality jewelry possesses in its feel on the skin and to the fingertips. They love the distinctive textures of seeds, pods, and everyday objects once cast. The elegance and beauty of raw stones and the innate quality that they embody is also a quality the two women strive to bring to life in their work.
Laura and Marian desire for the wearer to feel that their piece is special in that it tells a story. They want each customer to feel inspired by what they are wearing. All work begins with a theme and has a natural element captured within that theme.
McGowan and McClain are the cousins' middle names.
